Body of Lilith

The suspended progenitor of humanity, the silent heart driving the Instrumentality Project.

Body of Lilith

The Body of Lilith is the desiccated, humanoid form of the Mother of all Human Souls, suspended within the depths of GeoFront beneath Tokyo-3. Unlike the Angels, which are derived from Adam, this entity represents the progenitor of humanity itself. It serves as the central anchor for the Instrumentality Project, a plan designed to merge all human consciousness into a single collective existence by utilizing its unique properties.

Lore & Background

While Adam is the source of the Angels' power and the key to the Dead Sea Scrolls' prophecies, Lilith represents the alternative path for humanity. The conflict between these two progenitors drives much of the underlying tension in the narrative. When the Angel Kaworu Nagisa attempts to merge with the Third Child, he reveals that his true goal was to reunite with Adam, whereas the body of Lilith remains the focal point for merging all human souls into a singular state of being.

In Their Own Story

The air in the deepest chamber is stale, smelling of ancient dust and ozone. Above, the massive Magi supercomputers hum their low, rhythmic chant, monitoring the vitals that should not exist. Suspended by thick cables against the white walls, the figure hangs motionless—a pale, skeletal silhouette wrapped in bandages. A single beam of light cuts through the gloom, casting a long shadow on the floor. That shadow is not a shape, but a tree, branching out with impossible geometry, pulsing faintly as if breathing the dreams of a billion souls waiting to wake.

Reader's Guide

The Body of Lilith functions as the metaphysical anchor for human existence. In the world's mechanics, it possesses the unique ability to absorb and unify individual consciousnesses through the activation of the Human Instrumentality Project. It does not 'wield' power in a traditional sense like a weapon; rather, it acts as a catalyst. When exposed to an Angel or specific energy sources, such as the Spear of Longinus or the AT Fields of multiple beings simultaneously, it can trigger the dissolution of individual barriers between souls. Control over this entity is strictly maintained by Nerv and the shadowy organization Seele. They utilize the Magi supercomputer system to keep Lilith in a state of suspended animation, preventing accidental activation while preparing for the precise moment when Instrumentality must be initiated.
